Anthony Joshua is taking no chances ahead of his rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia next Saturday.
AJ, who suffered the first loss of his professional career against the Mexican on his American debut in New York, is keen to make amends this time around as he gives us a glimpse into his training camp ahead of the fight.
The shock loss in New York has only helped to focus his mind as he prepares to take on Ruiz for a second time.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, the Olympic gold medalist stated: “Mindset’s calm, mindset’s cool. Killer mindset - that’s what it’s about. Ice cold, stay in the moment, stay disciplined. It’s just killer, I belong here. I deserve to be here.
“This ain’t new to me. Everything we do is only for greatness. This is how I’m going to approach my training camps moving forward. It’s all an experience, it’s all a process. Boxing is a sticky and tricky game, mentally. Physically is one thing but there are highs and lows with this, do I wanna do it? Am I good enough? Am I getting the opportunities I deserve?
“There are so many obstacles you’ve just got to tell yourself that you belong here at the top level if you keep telling yourself that you will find yourself in positions that are only for the greats. Keep on pushing yourself through barriers and you will find yourself in the position like in a championship camp like this.”
The video depicts Joshua putting himself through the paces with a host of other top boxers, as he sprints up and down a hill in frosty conditions. Joshua has always appeared to be grounded throughout his career, yet this video shows just how hard he is working ahead of his rematch with his 30-year-old rival
This bout is an almost career-defining moment for AJ - a win will put him right back on track among the heavyweight elite but back-to-back defeats will be incredibly tough for him to recover from.
