Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard Transfer Opens Door To Sensational Chelsea Move For Defender

Bayern Munich added to their respectable forces by moving early for France World Cup star Benjamin Pavard this week, in a £31.4m move that will see the 22-year-old join the Bavarians from Stuttgart in the summer.

Though Manchester United were said to be interested in the defender and could rue missing out on the versatile player, this could be welcome news for Chelsea as Pavard’s arrival at the Allianz Arena would pave the exit for Mats Hummels.

Last week, The Sun broke news that the Blues were looking to bring in Hummels to rectify a questionable defence, with the Germany international becoming more and more outcast under Munich manager Niko Kovac.

The 30-year-old Hummels has had a tumultuous Bundesliga season so far. Once an automatic starter since his 2016 move from German rivals Borussia Dortmund, Hummels’ campaign has been interrupted by sporadic injury and relegation to the bench; he has started just eight times this season in the league

He is currently contracted at Bayern Munich under 2021 but is reportedly available to Chelsea for around £30million, supported by reports by ESPN. Whether this move comes into fruition this both or after the current season’s end.

Hummels has recorded a century of appearances for Munich, popping up with seven goals and eight assists and has won back-to-back Bundesliga titles to add to the pair he gained with Borussia Dortmund in 2010/11 and 2011/12 and would no doubt be a welcome experienced addition to Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea side despite his advancing years.

Sarri and Chelsea look to bounce back from their first-leg League Cup defeat to Tottenham Hotspur by trying to solidify their top four position in the EPL with a win against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
