Christopher Nkunku is continuing his fine form from last season in the Bundesliga this term as he has been involved in seven goals in all competitions for RB Leipzig.

In 2021-22, Nkunku scored 35 goals and registered 20 assists across all competitions as he claimed the Bundesliga Player of the Year. His stunning campaign saw him emerge as one of the most sought after players in Europe. Clubs were dealt a blow earlier in the summer when the Frenchman put pen to paper on a new deal, but Europe’s elite have been continuing to follow his progress.

The 24-year-old's stock is continuing to rise and his links to Premier League sides have heated up as a result. Chelsea were one of the most interested parties in his services over the summer, and a recent report from BILD has claimed that he had a ‘secret medical’ with the Blues last month as Todd Boehly looks set to trigger his reported £52.8 million release clause next summer.

His skill and physique allow him to excel across a variety of roles in Leipzig’s attack, whether it be leading the line, as a second striker, or attacking midfielder. This, along with his glowing statistics, is why clubs like Chelsea are looking so keenly at him.

This versatility he has would be a welcome addition to Graham Potter’s side, who could benefit from an attacker of his talents. Immediately looking at how the Englishman set up his side in his first match at Dinamo Zagreb, Nkunku could easily come into the side in place of either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Kai Havertz, depending on how Potter lines up his side for the long-term - although he is known for deploying different formations to throw opposition managers off the scent.

Both attackers have their own positives when they play, but both can be quite inconsistent and Chelsea need players that can deliver goals and assists regularly if they are to compete with their rivals for the biggest titles on offer.

Chelsea are in need of bolstering their attacking department after both forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner departed Stamford Bridge in the summer. If they are serious in their pursuit of Nkunku, they will need to act swiftly as a player of his capabilities for just over £52 million is a bargain in this day and age.
