Doncaster’s own Dave Allen believes if he can get past Lenroy Thomas in a second attempt to gain the Commonwealth Heavyweight Title then a British Title shot could be discussed, leading to potential slants at World honours.
The man known as The White Rhino brushed off rumours his upcoming fight could be his last chance, claiming he’ll be fighting another 15-20 years, with or without Sky Sports backing.
Allen, who is extremely active outside the ring, giving back to the community, says he wants to be known as more than just boxing’s comedian.
“I still want to one day fight for a World title” says Allen confidently while preparing for Jamaican Thomas. “I was a bit arrogant before, didn’t take my opponent seriously enough, but now I’m in the best shape probably ever and I want to show that I’m not just some joke, Sky and Eddie Hearn don’t just bring me back because I make people laugh but I’m Dave Allen – the boxer”.
Currently, Allen is also preparing a project called The Rhino Sanctuary – a gym intended for people from all walks of life, something spoken about previously in an exclusive interview with The Sportsman.
“When we last spoke we were getting plans into place” recalls Allen. “We now have the premises so things are looking really good.”
While also taking the time to survey the current heavyweight scene, Allen gave a bold prediction on the upcoming Anthony Joshua unification clash with Joseph Parker of New Zealand.
“Honestly, AJ will steamroller Parker” said a confident Allen. “I don’t see the fight lasting more than three rounds. I’m hearing AJ has lost a fair bit of weight which means he’ll have speed, he’ll smash Parker”.
