Memphis Depay is far from a shrinking wallflower, and as a way of celebrating reaching 5 million followers on social media platform Instagram, the scintillating Olympique Lyonnais forward explored his skills off the pitch as a music artist by dropping a brand new tune on his profile.

Wearing the bling, including a eye-melting diamond-encrusted watch with the Eiffel Tower beaming brightly behind him, the 24-year-old unabashedly starts spewing lyrics, taking the time to thank his fans; ‘I appreciate the love’.

Most controversially - and something that is sure to draw the ire of Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and manager Bruno Genesio - Depay flaunts smoking a fat cigar.

Naughty.

The Dutchman has been involved in 42 goals in 52 games for club and country in 2018. After finishing the 2017/18 season as the joint third highest goal-scorer in Ligue 1, alongside PSG’s Neymar, he currently sits on a respectable haul of five from 13 games for the new campaign- including scoring a memorable thunderbolt against Guingamp.

Depay has never been far from the headlines of late, with speculation about his future Les Gones career circulating and murmurings of a mooted return to Manchester United - where he spent an ill-fated 18 months until January 2017 - who sensibly hold a buy-back clause on the player.

However, with his lyrics expressed in the new video, Depay may have suggested he could be set for an extended tenure with Les Gones, past his current expiry date at the end of the 2020/21 season;

‘5 mill, I’m talking followers...New deal is gonna follow up...Called my agent told them double-up.”

You can watch the video of Depay’s rap below and judge whether his performance on the mic is as good as his performances on the pitch, for yourselves.

He’s not the only player to have expressed an interest in music - as recently as last week, United’s Romelu Lukaku was seen in the studio producing a cover of Jay-Z’s D’Evils.
