Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez: Have The Bookmakers Got The Betting Wrong For Monster Vegas Rematch?

Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez: Have The Bookmakers Got The Betting Wrong For Monster Vegas Rematch?

The eyes of the sporting world will fall on Las Vegas this weekend for the rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez, as the two rivals square off in one of the most highly anticipated fights in recent boxing history.

The pair fought out a memorable draw last September and are looking to finally end their beef once and for all at the T-Mobile Arena on the famous Nevada strip.

The title of middleweight king will go to the victor in the early hours of Sunday morning UK time and in terms of exciting match-ups, boxing doesn't get better than this clash between two of the biggest superstars in the sport.

The majority felt that Golovkin did enough to win the first fight with his front foot and attacking style often catching the eye against the counter-punching offence from Canelo, who likes to pick his shots in a more methodical style.

The betting for the rematch has been a lively market as you would expect with Golovkin the clear favourite to claim the bout, but plenty of shrewd money is going on the younger Alvarez to upset the odds at a juicy price.

The Mexican has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this year with two failed drug tests delaying the rematch from May until this weekend, but that could work in his favour as GGG enters the twilight of his career and there are those that believe Canelo was starting to work out Golovkin during the last few rounds of the first fight.

The flame haired fighter will need to continue where he left off to have any chance of defeating the unbeaten Kazakh fighter but if he does, the 6/4 on offer about the 28-year-old claiming the win by any method might prove to be a decent bet.

Brave punters who fancy the rematch to end in the same way as the first bout will be tempted by the 20/1 on offer about the draw, with the prospect of a third fight between the pair likely to suit all parties from a business point of view.

Either way, this is a potential fight of the year cracker which must not be missed. UK fans can watch the middleweight showdown on BT Sport Box Office and the bookmakers will be hoping they haven't got this one wrong...
