The Sportsman has crowned its first Perfect 10 winner, with John Hewitson landing December's £5,000 'Christmas Special' Leaderboard Challenge, with the 36-year-old seeing off thousands of entrants to emerge top of the four round leaderboard with an impressive 22 points. The aim of the Perfect 10 is to correctly predict the outcome of 10 football fixtures, which has yet to be won this season...It's not meant to be easy, but it's free to play and we're itching to give away the first jackpot of the season. Whilst we were waiting we decided to embrace the festive period by giving away a guaranteed £5,000 jackpot to the player that has the best score over a four weekend period in December.

The aim of the game in a Leaderboard Challenge is to accrue the most points over the stipulated period. Each player's score out of 10 each week is added together to provide a running-total, with the highest scorer after four rounds in December scooping the £5k prize. However, the first Perfect 10 Leaderboard Challenge was packed with drama, as John was joined at the head of the final table with Elaine Halliwell and George Caulker, on 22 points! To score a 55% prediction rate over a total of 40 fixtures is a very credible effort, but only one of the leading trio could walk away with the jackpot, so a tie-break situation was required - whoever could predict the minute of the first goal scored in the Boxing Day clash between Tottenham and Southampton, would be crowned winner.

John guessed 18 minutes and Elaine guessed 27 minutes, with the first goal being scored by Harry Kane on 22 minutes, crowning John the winner. However, it was a real hard luck story for runner-up Elaine, who would have scooped the winnings had Kane scored just a minute later!

Following his win, The Sportsman caught up with John to find out what he planned to do with his winnings. The Newcastle United fan from Blyth, Northumberland, said "nothing is planned for the money yet, but I'm sure the wife will thinking of something." It turned out to be a double celebration on Boxing Day for John, as it was also his son's fifth birthday. He commented that the reason for choosing 18 minutes as his guess for the first goal in the Spurs game was because it was the date of his daughter's birthday, lucky for him that had he opted for the 26th, he would have also won!

In addition to his win, it is great to here that a lot of John's friends are now Perfect 10 converts, stating "since winning, a lot of friends have now signed up for it (Perfect 10) and they all think it’s better than Super 6 since you don’t have to get correct scores."

Congratulations to John and Round 22 is live, so Play Now for your chance to kick-off 2018 with a £10k windfall.
