The prominent UK businessman Sir Alan Sugar, a high-profile fan of Tottenham Hotspur, has been treated to a tour of the club’s brand spanking new stadium, which is in the final stages of construction.
In a clip uploaded to his Twitter account, he gives fans a peek around what looks, mercifully, like something approaching the finished job.
A gleaming new home for the club within the same footprint as their historic old ground, it really does look to be up to par with the best in the world, in any code.
An ambitious project designed to replace the old White Hart Lane and bring Spurs facilities in line with the world’s best, it’s been beset by problems.
The uncertainty around Britain’s upcoming exit from the European Union, and the knock-on effect on the value of the Pound Sterling, have caused construction costs to spiral to close to the £1bn mark, according to side’s first team manager Mauricio Pochettino.
The resulting financial worries for the club have led to them searching for new ways to raise capital. Spurs did not make a single addition to their squad in the summer transfer window.
Time, as well as money, has been a problem, with the stadium expected to be operational for the start of this season but will now not be ready, at the very least least, until the start of the next campaign.
That’s meant that Spurs have had to play ‘home games’ at Wembley this term, as well as MK Dons’ Stadium MK.
Once the turnstiles are opened on this new ground, though, all the hassle may - just about - be forgiven by fans.
