Football is a wonderful sport for records and milestones. As we prepare ourselves for everything that the 2023-24 season has to offer, we could be set to witness some more rich history in English football in this year’s Premier League.

Manchester City can make 130-year history

No one dead or alive has ever seen an English team win four top-flight titles on the spin. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have the chance to be the first club on record to do so, and there is a strong chance that they will accomplish this feat.

They are the 8/11 favourites to win their fourth consecutive Premier League title and they continue to showcase why they are the best of the best. After coming off the back of claiming a historic treble last year, Guardiola and his players will show the same hunger and desire to make some more history. Although it appears as though Arsenal are addressing the issues that ended their surprising title charge last year, Man City are in such a rhythm that they will be difficult to disrupt.

James Milner can become the Premier League appearance record holder

It was 21 years ago that James Milner made his senior debut for his boyhood club Leeds United. He has enjoyed an incredible career in which he has played over 800 career matches, and won an impressive amount of titles including the Premier League and Champions League.

He is a stalwart of the top division, with 619 appearances to date in the competition. The 37-year-old has made the third-most appearances in the Premier League with 619 to date. Only Gareth Barry (652) and Ryan Giggs (632) are ahead of the midfielder, but he is on course to take the record for himself

Having been signed by high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion following his Liverpool exit, the veteran still has much to offer in England’s top flight and he will likely play a significant role in Roberto De Zerbi’s side. In a 38-game season, Milner only needs to feature 34 times to surpass Barry’s tally and hold the record for most Premier League appearances. And with his versatility to play in midfield or defence, it is likely that this time next year we will be writing about his incredible longevity at the highest level of the beautiful game as the all-time appearance record holder.

Pep Guardiola can equal Bob Paisley’s Liverpool haul

Since Guardiola’s arrival at Manchester City back in 2016, he has helped the Cityzens dominate English football. The Spaniard has led his team to 12 major titles in the past seven seasons including five Premier League titles and one Champions League. He is one major away from equalling the legendary late Bob Paisley’s total of 13 at Liverpool back in the 1970s and 80s. Only Sir Alex Ferguson has won more titles for an English club with his staggering 26 titles across his glorious spell with Manchester United.

Guardiola and his players will be eager to build on last year’s treble triumph and knowing that he can match the number of titles won by one of English football’s all-time great managers, he would love to join such esteemed company by winning another major crown in 2023-24.
