In an exclusive with The Sportsman.com, star trainer Dominic Ingle shares his thoughts on the upcoming Eubank vs. Abraham Fight.
Current head of the famous Wincobank Gym, Dominic Ingle is better placed than most to give us his thoughts on Saturday’s IBO Super Middleweight fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Arthur Abraham. Currently, under his stewardship Ingle has many big names, Kell Brook, Junior Witter and Kid Galahad are to name a few.
Perhaps most importantly for Saturday’s fight Ingle also trains Billy Joe Saunders. Back in 2014 Eubank and Saunders met for the first time. It was clear on the night who the better boxer was and Saunders walked away with a unanimous decision. Importantly in this match Saunders showed his superior skill and outboxed his opponent. Eubank showed promise late on but ultimately was forced to concede to the better boxer.
What could happen on Saturday is, at this point, anyone's guess. Both Eubank and Abraham look in good shape and are able to walk away with a win. Many are predicting Eubank will go the distance but Abraham could cause an upset.
With such expectation and coming in as the favourite. Eubank has been the subject of much speculation. Talk of his involvement in the inaugural Mohammed Ali Trophy is already making the rounds. Regardless of his involvement in this newly created trophy, beating such a high profile boxer as Abraham would push Eubank to a new level and with it a new calibre of fighter.
Potentially the most likely fight in this new calibre of boxer is the aforementioned Billy Joe Saunders. When we asked Ingle about this potential matchup he showed nothing but confidence in Saunders “there's no chance of Chris Eubank Jr beating Billy Joe Saunders” he said, following with “its written in stone”.
Something difficult to predict is what Eubank will do if he wins. Living up to his father's legacy is no easy task and the only way he can do this is by constantly taking on the best fighters.
Ingle being at this promotional event was no coincidence. And while it's not “set in stone” what will happen, you have to expect Eubank will be looking for revenge against Saunders. Could a win against Abraham put the pieces into place for this fight?
Ingle, as always, was a true gent and gave some interesting insights on everything from Saturday's fight to Kell Brook. Take a look and tell us if you agree.
