Youtube stars KSI and Joe Weller took to the ring in London’s Copper Box tonight to settle their digital differences in the most old-fashioned way possible tonight.
The fight attracted over 1.5 million viewers online and they watched two amateur fighters going toe-to-toe in admirable if unprofessional fashion.
The fight was scheduled to last six three-minute rounds but KSI’s strong jab was too much for Weller and the referee stopped the fight midway through the third round of the bout.
The referee declared the Youtuber, who became famous for his videos of his video-gaming exploits, a winner by knockout.
The two fighters embraced in the ring after the bout, and the belt was handed to the victor by professional box Derek Chisora.
Personally, I’d pay a decent-sized admission fee to see either of them fight Del Boy, but that’s just me.
KSI, in his comments following the fight, was complimentary about his adversary and his bravery.
‘I talked the talk and I walked the walk M***********. ‘On the real though, Joe you are way harder, way tougher than I thought. Fair play, respect for you for getting in the ring and giving me a tough battle, bro.’
His opponent was equally gracious in defeat.
‘Obviously, I’m gutted. I thought we did everything we could do to defeat JJ, but he prevailed. Those blows, they stun you. 100% respect, he put in the work, and that power is lethal.’
It’s a brave new world.
