The 28-year-old Mexican middleweight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is only hours away from his fateful rematch with the champion of the division, the undefeated Kazakh Gennady Golovkin.
The pair fought out a closely contest draw in Vegas exactly a year ago but Golovkin was cited as the rightful winner by most observers and a rematch was a certainty as soon as the result was announced that time around.
Canelo’s named was muddied in the aftermath of that fight after he was twice found to have had the presence of the banned substance Clenbuterol and later served a ban.
His score settler against Triple-G, one of the greater pound-for-pound fighters in history, was set up by the usual weigh-in and face off in Vegas yesterday.
The pair exchanged the usual barbs in front of the cameras at that T-mobile Arena in front of 9,000 fight fans and had to be seperated quite quickly after they started their face off.
Perhaps the most intriguing tidbit to come out of the weigh-in was a video of Canelo from backstage. It shows him shirtless and visibly sweating, falling in a bundle to the ground in front of some cameras. It looked, instinctively, like he may have collapsed - perhaps from dehydration, one of the rougher parts of a boxer’s weight cut.
But some observers have claimed the fight just missed his chair while attempting to sit down.
It’s hard to be sure, but that doesn’t look like the case to me. Do have a look at the footage and tell us what you think below!
