Daniel Cormier made history at UFC 230 in New York on Saturday as he became the first fighter to successfully defend a title belt in multiple weight classes after he submitted Derrick Lewis in the second round of their title fight, courtesy of a rear naked choke.
When asked by ring interviewer Joe Rogan if Brock Lesnar would be his next opponent, Cormier replied with a glint in his eye:
"Brock Lesnar, when you come, bring that brand new WWE title as I feel like being a WWE Champion too. LET'S GO! LET'S GO BROCK! Bring that belt with you if you come to my house."
The defeat of Lewis means Cormier now boasts 22 victories to his name as he defended the UFC heavyweight title he'd won in July against Stipe Miocic, while the manner of his latest crushing win sent a real message to Lesnar.
Cormier is 40 next March and has previously declared that he wants to retire before he hits that age, meaning one more blockbuster fight is on the cards before he hangs up the gloves.
A duel against Lesnar looks like it will be the next port of call, although while the WWE star has not fought in the UFC since UFC 200 when he got the better of Mark Hunt - this victory was later overturned after he tested positive for clomiphene - the 41-year-old has stated his intent to return in the New Year.
Meanwhile, UFC President Dana White said this after he asked if Cormier could one day become the President of the company
"Definitely - He can do anything. He literally can do anything"
