Eddie Hearn Reveals Lawyers Are Involved To Resurrect Benn vs Eubank Jr Fight

Matchroom boxing managing director Eddie Hearn says negotiations are taking place between lawyers, teams and the British Boxing Board of Control as the Conor Benn versus Chris Eubank Jr superfight at London's O2 Arena on Saturday remains in jeopardy.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Benn had failed a drugs test after the discovery of trace amounts of clomifene, a fertility drug which can increase testosterone in men and is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Benn’s test was carried out by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

And after Hearn had initially released a statement on behalf of the two promoters, the British Boxing Board of Control then countered by announcing they were prohibiting the fight from going ahead in light of the drug test result.

The BBBC statement read: “On the evening of 4th October 2022, the Board of the British Boxing Board of Control Limited resolved that the contest between Chris Eubank Jnr. and Conor Benn scheduled to take place on 8th October 2022 is prohibited as it is not in the interests of Boxing.”

But Hearn has told DAZN that the BBBC decision is not the end of the matter, with discussions still taking place over the fight going ahead as planned.

“Both fighters signed up for a multitude of testing for this fight. The UKAD testing, the testing agency that the British Boxing Board of Control use and are governed by, have all been clear and negative," Hearn explained.

“And there was an adverse finding on the VADA test previously. There has not been an official doping violation. Conor Benn is not suspended by the BBBC, ultimately he can’t be because he’s passed all the tests from UKAD.

“But clearly the BBBC will take a position on it, [and] we’ll deal with the lawyers.

“Both camps are prepared to progress with the fight but ultimately the conversations have to be had with the lawyers, the teams and the BBBC.”
