The Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura, Portugal played host to the final leg of the Long Drive World Series on Sunday.
This exciting, rapidly growing form of golf sees big hitting players compete to see who’s longest off the tee.
Sunday’s event in Portugal saw eight of the world’s longest drivers teeing off before that number was halved and a four-man play-off competed for the title.
Ryan Reisbeck claimed both Sunday’s prize and the inaugural Long Drive World Series title. The American golfer also clocked the longest drive of the day with 389 yards.
Speaking after the event, Reisbeck said of his performance: “I was very fortunate to come away with the win against such a strong field of competitors and at such a beautiful venue.”
Both the Portuguese leg and the World Series in a wider sense have been an unqualified success and the organisation’s CEO Martin Westney had some good news for fans of this fledgling sport when speaking to the press after the event: “I can promise one thing… it will be even bigger and better than 2017. We have some very exciting plans for the future.”
