Here at The Sportsman we’ve come across some exceptional winning bets in our time, but this one arguably tops the lot.

One incredibly lucky - and no doubt skilled - punter has landed a staggering £158,477 payout after his double came in over the weekend.

The punter’s £1 each-way 150801/1 bet needed 500/1 shot Brandon Stone to win the European’s Tour Scottish Open, and the 300/1 priced Michael Kim to triumph over on the other side of the pond in the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic.

The first-leg came in after Stone was crowned the Scottish Open at Gullane Golf Club, as he finished four shots ahead of Eddie Pepperell, although the South African’s scintillating final round of 60 was agonisingly one shot short of breaking the European Tour record - no player has ever shot 59.

However, this won’t have been of too much, if any, concern to the Sky Bet punter who now needed Kim to bring him home the spoils in the John Deere Classic.

Kim, who celebrated his 25th birthday on Saturday, headed into the final round at TPC Deere Run with a sizeable five shot lead after 54 holes.

The American, who was born in South Korea, went on to card a final-round 66 meaning he not only bagged his first PGA Tour win by a whopping eight shots, but in the process set a tournament scoring record of 27-under 257...

...cue scenes of absolute jubilation in the household of the unnamed punter who will now no doubt celebrate the astonishing win in style!
