He was the most naturally gifted footballer of his generation but Paul Scholes showed how good he is with a sand wedge in his hand at Wentworth on Wednesday with a superb hole out from the sand in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
The former Manchester United midfielder showed that he isn't just a one trick pony and looked every bit the golfer with a superb shot from the sand for birdie. Andrew Coltart who was reporting for Sky Sports during the pro-am event at the European Tour's headquarters, was really impressed - "what a shot, that's incredible!"
Scholes, who is a regular pundit on BT Sport simply shrugged his shoulders and said "I told you I was going to go for it".
The pro-am at a sunny Wentworth was the pre-cursor to this week's BMW PGA Championship, the European Tour's flagship event. The event was star-studded, with Scholes playing in a group alongside former teammates Michael Carrick, Teddy Sheringham and professional Rory McIlroy who is favourite to win this week's tournament.
Other sports stars who enjoyed their round at Wentworth included former Irish and Lions captain Brian O'Driscoll, jockey Sir Anthony McCoy and ex-footballers Matt Le Tissier and Peter Schmeichel who were playing alongside Pep Guardiola and England's Tommy Fleetwood who is another well fancied this week.
Paul Casey makes a rare start on British soil whilst Sweden's Alex Noren and Branden Grace of South Africa will also compete.
You can follow the BMW PGA Championship via The Sportsman's live leaderboard throughout the four days, beginning on Thursday morning.
