Tiger Woods expressed his gratitude to golf fans around the world on Tuesday as the American legend continues to try and secure an American Ryder Cup spot for the tournament, which takes place in Paris next month.

Speaking ahead of a practice round, Woods, who has been on the comeback trail since November after a catalogue of injuries, said: "I think people are more appreciative," "They know I'm at the tail-end of my career. I don't know how many years I've got left but I'm certain I'm not like I was when I was 22. At 42 it is a different ball game, added Woods.

Woods finished 11th in the USA Ryder Cup standings, which was just outside the top-eight places which earned a direct route into Jim Furyk's team that will be heading to Europe to try and lift the coveted trophy, but the 42-year-old has been tipped to earn a wildcard from Furyk, as he looks to maintain his high level of form, and continue to show he still oozes class with a golf club in his hand.

The multiple Major winner has already been announced as one of Furyk's vice-captains, a role he adopted at the 2016 Ryder Cup, but he is hoping that he can feature on the playing staff in the French capital at the end of September, and if he can maintain his high level of play as well as maintaining his fitness then Woods is sure to fill one of Furyk's wildcard spots.
