Tommy Fleetwood is contention to win the Open Championship thanks to a brilliant second round of 65.
The Englishman went close to lifting his first major title when finishing runner-up in the US Open last time out and he is bang in the mix once again for one of the biggest crowns in golf.
Fleetwood produced a bogey free round of 65 to take his score to -5 ahead of the weekend, just one off the lead at the time of writing. The man from Southport has been knocking on the door for some time now and with the rain falling on a cold morning at Carnoustie, the 27-year-old put together a round of the highest quality.
The European #1 capped off his day with an excellent birdie putt on the last hole and he was clearly delighted with his work for the day.
Fleetwood wasn't the only player to make an impression on Friday with Zach Johnson also making his move. The 2015 winner followed up his first round 69 with a terrific 67 to put himself in the club house lead on -6 and one clear of his English rival.
The conditions for the second round could not have been more different than on Thursday with the rain finally coming to a course starved of precipitation. With the course playing much longer than on day one, it was Johnson and Fleetwood who made the most of their morning start to ensure they will be teeing off with the late starters on Saturday afternoon.
