Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has quickly become the best player in the world over the past few years and he looks to be there to stay. Mcilroy remains a young man but he has already achieved so much with Major Championships and winning Ryder Cup appearances already notched up on his impressive CV. Mcilroy splits his time between playing in Europe and in America but his year will be geared around the major championships as he bids to add to his already impressive haul.

Perhaps the defining moment so far in the career of Rory Mcilroy came at the 2011 US Masters when after three perfect rounds he went into Sunday four clear of the field and on track for his first Major. What followed was nothing short of a disaster as he scored an 80 to fall away spectacularly to the surprise of most golf fans. Many players would have struggled to cope with such a woeful performance but it is testament to McIlroy that he bounced back at the first available opportunity.

At the very next Major Championship we saw Rory McIlroy win the US Open by a remarkable eight shots at Congressional. It was a stunning performance from the young man as he proved to the golfing world that he was the special talent that most believed he would be. McIlroy was even better in 2012 as he gained the number one ranking in the world before winning the USPGA Championship at Kiawah Island to win his second Major Championship.

It is also worth noting that he has been part of consecutive winning Ryder Cup teams in 2010 and 2012 and he is sure to be a mainstay for the Europeans for many years to come. Alongside Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy is the superstar of world golf at the moment both on and off the course. He has a famous tennis playing girlfriend to boot which only serves to heighten his celebrity star but so far he has been more than good enough on the course to justify the hype surrounding him.
