Ireland have beaten New Zealand for only the second time as one of the most thrilling test matches we have seen in recent years came to an end with the score 16-9 in Ireland’s favour. The hosts ransacked their illustrious visitors for the whole game, not given them a moment’s rest over the 80 minutes.
The intensity and pressure was something that New Zealand simply could not battle against and just one try, scored by Jason Stockdale in the first half, was enough to seal the win. Johnny Sexton’s boot was enough to make the difference and keep New Zealand at bay.
In the end the Irish pulled off an impressive 16-9 win and are now serious contenders for next year’s Rugby World Cup, having shown that they can get the better of the best team in the world.
James Doherty: “The freedom of Ireland should be granted to everyone in the Irish squad... Nobody has done us prouder in sport than these guys. “
Dawn Ashdown said: “Not bad Ireland. Not bad at all.”
Simon Stone said: “Brilliant win by Ireland. To beat the All Blacks twice is not luck. Serious team.”
Bennet Morgan said: Keeping the world's best team try-less cannot be undervalued (when was the last time that even happened? Someone check the records). Well done Ireland, what a great result for the game!
Daniel Gleeson added: "What a game. Such intensity from start to finish. Incredible performance from Ireland."
