Run DMC and adidas have been a staple of sneaker culture for decades now. It’s like that and that’s the way it is (Huh!). The hip-hop legends and German sports fashion giants have joined forces plenty of times down the years to create bespoke kicks; the trio even had the hit ‘My adidas’ in honour of the brand back in 1986. Fast forward to today and the partnership is still as strong as ever with a new collection set for this month celebrating half a century of the famous adidas Superstar trainer.

These shoes, coming in white and black and black and white colourways (confusing, we know), feature the band’s branding on the tongue and midfoot to create a truly unique sneaker while fat laces give a different look going back to the eighties for a proper retro feel. As well, Jam Master Jay, who sadly passed away in 2002, is honoured with a portrait on the tongue of the black pair.

The trainers of course take centre stage when it comes to this popular mash-up but the sky blue varsity jacket with classic red branding is a really neat addition as are the three t-shirts and hooded fleece tops with Run DMC branding boasting the usual attitude this collaboration always throws up.
Group member Darryl McDaniels told MTV in one interview, "'My adidas' was a song that was about our sneakers, but it was bigger than just talking about how many pairs of sneakers we had. It came from the place where people would look at the b-boys, the b-girls and go, 'Oh, those are the people that cause all the problems in here.' And, 'Those young people are nothing but troublemakers and those young people don't know nothing.' So they was [sic] judging the book by its cover, without seeing what was inside of it."

In this get-up, you’ll be judged still, but as a connoisseur of cutting edge fashion which has a history of celebrating culture.
