We spent hours as a child flicking through pages looking for that damn red and white striped character, and yep we are on about Where’s Wally? in the United Kingdom, or Where’s Waldo? to our American cousins. Now, California-based trainer brand Vans, have teamed up with the folks at Where’s Waldo? to create a footwear collection.

The classic skate company recently released their ‘Year of the Ox’ sneaker capsule and this follows on from that success with another remarkable collection. Where’s Wally? (or Waldo) has been around since 1987, with Martin Handford’s incredible idea now shared and loved by millions of children and adults around the world. The infuriating illustrations are now iconic and now these same illustrations will be transferred on Vans’ classic silhouettes such as the Old Skool, Sk8-Hi and the Authentic.

Across the different shoes they have produced a truly unique range but one that is not only instantly recognisable, but fashionable. There is something for everyone from a red and white striped number with branding on the exterior sole, a sticker book style pattern on a white background, but our favourite is an absolute classic which shows the instantly recognisable beach background and picturesque scenery that has thrilled us for decades now. They have also chucked in a black and yellow chequered high-top to cut through the red and white majority.

Multilingual phrases adorn the shoe while there is a clothing range that goes with the collection featuring ‘Off The Wall’ branding and a red and white t-shirt featuring pictures of the main man himself. With two snapbacks also in the collection you can get your Where’s Wally? fix. It is the sneakers however which truly draw the eye - just prepare for random strangers staring at your feet trying to find that striped little character.
The Vans x Where’s Waldo? Collection arrived on the Vans webstore on January 12.
