It’s hard to believe but it’s been a quarter of a century since Foo Fighters, one of the biggest and best stadium rock bands in the world, were founded by “that drummer from Nirvana” and released their self-titled debut album. To commemorate this slice of musical history, the 12-time Grammy winners have joined forces with Vans for a special-edition pair of sneakers.
Vans have been Dave Grohl and co’s go-to favourites for 25 years and the band chose to use the Sk8-Hi as their canvas, a regular among the members’ style rotation over the years, citing the model’s timeless form. Maintaining the iconic appearance of the classic silhouette and enhancing it with Foo Fighters’ signature emblem, the shoes’ black, white and red details naturally lend to a perfect collaboration between two giants of their respective fields.
These cranked-all-the-way-to-eleven Sk8-His feature black uppers with red contrast stitching, a Foo Fighters’ double F logo in white on the medial and lateral sides, and “Foo” and “Fighters” in red on the heels. On the tongue is a 25th anniversary embroidery tag, and, in a nod to Foo Fighters’ stripped-down musical style, the Sk8-His’ traditional side stripe is only hinted at, with a shape outlined in contrast stitching.
A price is yet to be announced, but the Vans x Foo Fighters Sk8-Hi will be available worldwide beginning 29 January at Vans retail locations and online at shop.foofighters.com and Vans.eu. The band’s 10th studio album, Medicine At Midnight, will be released on 5 February.
