We’re barely a week into 2021 but the future is already here with adidas’ brand new 4D Fusio, a lightweight running shoe that looks like it’s dropped straight from 2121. Taking its design cues from 2020’s IIM 4D, only with a much trendier colourway, and utilising revolutionary 4D technology, the Fusios are a game-changer.

It’s not adidas’ first venture into using 4D and the last three years or so have seen the Three Stripes incorporate the technology into the base of a number of collaborations such as with Pharrell Williams, but the fitness and running focused counterparts, like the 4D Run 1.0, have rarely come close to being as popular as the more lifestyle orientated shoe. With the 4D Fusio, adidas intends to change that.

Made from an upper of Primeknit with an enticing black, pink and orange blend. The upper is also decorated with a grey collar that’s made in a finer knitted material than the Primeknit upper. The entire upper base is then decorated with a new TPU lace system, which in boomerang-style tubes is weaved together by the flat laces. Rounding out the pair is the outsole, which like the IIM 4D, sports vertically-place lines acting as the outsole’s tread.

Official information on adidas’ 4D Fusio is yet to be released by adidas themselves, but it could be the German sportswear brand’s worst kept secret with pictures already leaked, a January 15 release date mooted and a price believed to be around £180 at selected retailers.
