A fifth of the way into the twenty-first century, and running has become synonymous with one particular brand.
We’re not quite at ‘Do you even Garmin?’ yet, thank goodness, but the tech is becoming an incredibly visible and imperative piece of kit for any aspiring and trendy athlete who likes to take to the track, make a march on the marathon, or pound the pavement.
Garmin hasn’t isolated the experience of their tech to the outdoors, however. And we’re not just talking about the treadmill. Recognising the ever-burgeoning Esports market and the desire to devour online streaming content, Garmin’s new Esports Instinct smartwatch is now ready to be consciously coupled with gamers’ wrists everywhere.
Coming with the possibility of a colossal 14 days worth of battery charge, thanks to exciting new technology available to be utilised for both the elite and the everyman, the pro and the proletariat, streamers can now broadcast their biometric stats to their fans thanks to the Garmin: Instinct - Esports edition, ‘the GPS gaming smartwatch built for victories.’

It allows the button mashers to broadcast their stress level and heart rates directly to gaming streams through STR3AMUP! Up to 80 hours in Esports mode and up to a fortnight in smartwatch mode, features include the ‘train smarter IRL’ with preloaded activity profiles for physical activities that will straddle the gaming individual’s world of both the digital and the real. Users are privileged to their heart rate data along with alerts if it stays too high or too low while at rest. Players will be able to gauge how hard their heart is working, which will no doubt become particularly evident whilst on a CoD deathmatch shooting spree, or trying to stay alive The Last of Us style. Furthermore, once the controller has been put down, advanced sleep monitoring provides a breakdown of light, deep and REM sleep stages.
“With the Instinct Esports Edition, Esports athletes can tap into that same technology to track and examine how their body responds to intense competition,” Garmin state, “Players can also use Instinct’s data to make adjustments in their daily lives, whether it be altering sleep patterns or activity levels, which can result in increased cognitive and physical performance during play.”
Arriving in a bold Black Lava colour scheme with high contrast display and purpose-built design the Garmin: Instinct - Esports Edition retails at £269.99.
