In the world of music streaming, Spotify is king; According to the Wall Street Journal it’s currently enjoying a paid-subscriber base of around 100 million, which is basically double that of nearest rival, Apple Music.
But with the competition battlefield rapidly ramping up (YouTube Music, Pandora, Amazon Music and Deezer to name but a few of the big guns out on the lawn) Spotify has decided to take their brand towards a whole new sport-loving audience through a collaboration with PUMA and Spotify’s original podcast series, Who We Be.
The Who We Be Talks is a weekly Spotify original podcast hosted by DJ Semtex and Parris OH. The podcast takes a weekly look at all aspects of street culture - from the hottest artists to the newest sneaker releases - you can see where PUMA fit in.
The PUMA associated footballers include Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku, and Luis Suarez, who will all lift the lid on their frenetic lifestyles and, more importantly, spill the beans on what’s playing on their headphones (Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho’s 21 song playlist includes tracks from Stormzy and Tinie Tempah).
“As a global sports brand rooted in culture, PUMA is the perfect partner to launch the first brand sponsorship of our original podcast series, Who We Be Talks,” said Marco Bertozzi, VP, Head of EMEA Sales at Spotify.
“This first-to-market collaboration celebrates the strong link between music and sport, while establishing a deep, personalised connection between our engaged, culturally savvy listeners and PUMA’s network of global athletes.”
