Hello darkness my old friend...ok, so Simon and Garfunkel weren’t singing about going for an evening run in the British winter. But we are. And the one thing that’s a constant, beyond the cold, is the dark. It’s always bloody dark. Thanks to 2020 and our warm, brightly lit gyms being closed right now, more and more of us are heading out into the darkness. Here’s how to embrace it, with the best lighting tech to brighten up your winter workout…
A Beanie With A Bulb - £9.99
This is a hat and a light. Mind blown! So not only will the Oumeiou LED Beanie brighten your running route, but it will keep you toasty warm as well. Dark and cold, meet your match. The one-size-fits-all unisex garment has a built in LED light that’s removable and rechargeable via USB in a laptop, car charger, or power bank. Fully charged it’s bright enough to
illuminate up to 30 feet in front of you and the battery lasts for around 4 hours with continuous use (that’s one stonking huge run) or almost 68 hours of intermittent use (lots of little runs, more like it). It comes in lots of different colours too. You need this in your life, and you know it.
Light Up Those Laces - £42.87
Make sure you put your best foot forward with the Hiverst LED Shoe Lights. These bad boys are fit for all weathers, they laugh (and light) in the face of wind, rain, ice and snow. They don’t care that winter is coming, not one jot. Simply clip onto your laces, rather than on the back of your trainers, wave your hand to turn off and on (saving a lifetime of fumbling in the cold and dark for the blasted switch) and more than 30ft ahead will be illuminated for your running pleasure. Batteries are USB rechargeable and also feature a low battery indicator light, with the charge lasting up to 4 hours.
The Chest Lamp That’s Got All Angles Covered - £18.99
This is two for the price of one, the Zenoplige Running Light Lamp has you covered front and back. It’s a running light that attaches to your chest, with an elasticated harness that’s dead easy to adjust and is super lightweight, so it won’t impact on that PB you’re chasing on these dark winter nights (we see you). The front light is powered by a 3W XPG lamp which provides up to 50 meters of illumination, and it comes with high, low, and strobe settings. You know, just in case you want to get your rave on mid-run. To the rear is a simple but effective red warning lamp, and the whole kit it’s fully rechargeable, with a battery life of five hours. Strap on and get going.
