What’s Up, Doc? Looney Tunes x Converse Celebrate 80 Years Of Bugs Bunny

Celebrate eight decades of cartoon's most famous rabbit with Converse

Ambitious crossovers are nothing new. We’ve seen The Simpsons x Family Guy, Avengers: Infinity War and of course, the best of the lot, Pigs in Blankets. Who knew a tiny sausage wrapped in bacon could taste so good? Now two of the most iconic brands are joining the fun. Eighty years ago those crazy cats at Looney Tunes first brought Bugs Bunny to our screens, and to mark that moment they’ve teamed up with Converse to create some unique sneakers. Nothing says Bugs Bunny quite like a sneaker.

To celebrate this diamond anniversary, three famous Converse lines, the Chuck Taylor All Star, the Chuck 70 Hi and the Pro Leather, have all been adorned with the most famous rabbit in the world (sorry Roger and Peter but you know it's true). These equally eye-popping shoes have been adorned with iconic prints of Bugs Bunny and feature special materials to make them stand out from the crowd.

We are personally big fans of the Chuck Taylor line featuring two high tops and one low top. The black colourway high top provides the perfect background for the classic Bugs Bunny graphic (him chewing a carrot, of course) to burst out of the lateral side, just as he does in the Looney Tunes credits. On the medial side of the same shoe, he is pictured cutting up the Converse badge with a pair of scissors in some classic misbehaving from this rascal rabbit.

The other high top comes in red, and is more classy than cartoony, featuring a visual of Bugs Bunny grinning one one side, and an untouched Converse logo on the other. Classic white, meaning you can wear them anywhere, they feature Bugs Bunny’s development across the ages doing his iconic walk, from his debut in 1940 right up to the present day! All three designs come with an 80th anniversary black tongue tag, but this accentuates the black trims on this particular shoe.

The other lines are much more subtle in their nod to this cartoon classic. The Chuck 70’s are light grey and white (sound familiar?), have a small Bugs Bunny graphic and his catchphrase “What’s Up Doc?” printed on the inside of the tongue. Meanwhile Pro Leather’s suede number also features that famous phrase, but takes Bug’s carrot and places it on the rear of the lateral side.

This is an excellent showing from both Converse and Looney Tunes who have managed to keep this classy rather than tacky. It’s all about the small details and these are full of nods to the 80 years of Bugs Bunny.
